The beginning with a word, frontiers….

If one checks the word frontiers in any dictionary,   the meanings/synonyms usually given are borders, boundaries, limits, the connotations of which are not necessarily positive. Seen from another perspective, a frontier is the end of something and the beginning of something new, different, challenging….

This was the motivator of a team of professionals with a diverse and international experience who had decided to end what they were doing and embark on a new journey exploring new frontiers which would go beyond the business community of Cyprus.

A frontier marks the boundaries of the territory one knows. But also the start of a new world of challenges and opportunities.

In 2003, interFRONTIERS had become a “home owner” setting up its offices and training facilities in a countryside type of ranch, at the outskirts of Nicosia, (near Deftera village).

Situated in the green surroundings of a beautiful orchard, “Ithaki” (as it was appropriately named), has become the host of more than 1000 workshops, since 2002. Our guest trainees who are by now, well above 20000, have enjoyed the “Ithaki” hospitality and the ideal setting for a memorable learning experience.

“Ithaki” has three fully equipped classrooms, as well as areas for smaller groups for breakout sessions, fantastic outdoors for experiential activities, ample own parking and kitchen facilities for home-cooked catering.

Why the name

Ithaki is no ordinary Greek island. In the history of Hellenism Ithaki has come under the spotlight in Odyssey by Homer and the adventurous journey of Odysseus back home to the Kingdom of Ithaca. It has then found its place in one of the most celebrated poems by Kavafis.

It has become a symbol for a journey, for the discoveries and the experiences related to it, for one’s determination to arrive at the chosen destination, no matter what and for the wish to be home when a goal is achieved. The founders of interFRONTIERS could not think of a more appropriate name for their home when their work life was one of many challenging and fulfilling travels, journeys with exciting new experiences and many goals to achieve.
